Our Favorite State Parks

State parks often offer free or inexpensive ways for the entire family to have a full day of entertainment. Entry to a state park is usually less than $15 a day, and many states offer state park passes to allow entrance to every park within a state.  Some local libraries even allow you to check out a state park pass for free. And sometimes, state parks announce entry to state parks and beaches free for a day or even for the entire summer. Be sure to check the state's website to find out about fees, reservations, educational activities, camping, fishing, boating, hiking, and other information so there are no surprises when you head to the park for the day.  Here are some of our favorites:

Located near Madison, Indiana, the park's waterfalls change moods with the weather and seasons, ranging from delicate bridal-veil mists to gleaming frozen titans.

Franconia Notch State Park, in the heart of the White Mountain National Forest, provides spectacular mountain views. It extends from the Flume Gorge at the south to Echo Lake at the north.

Buckskin Mountain State Park provides scenic respite, mountain hikes, a desert escape, and fun-filled water adventure. The Buckskin and River Island are popular for boating and skiing, swimming, and camping.
